Unifying Senior Leadership

Sliding Line
  • Our client, a global leader in the satellite and engineering space, was experiencing integration challenges following a strategic acquisition of another major industry player. Despite its long history as a market leader, the company needed a strategic reset to drive future growth.

As highlighted by Harvard Business Review, many mergers fail not due to the acquisition itself, but because of the complexities in aligning leadership and defining a clear direction post-merger. For our client, the newly appointed CEO needed to unite the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) across both companies, creating a cohesive vision and efficient leadership structure. While the acquisition had been financially successful, inefficiencies in the leadership structure and a lack of strategic cohesion were hindering the company’s ability to capitalise on the full potential of the merger.

Exevion was engaged to evaluate the organisation’s leadership model and establish a framework to help support a streamlined, high-performing team.

  • To address these challenges, Exevion executed a structured, multi-phase approach:

    Discovery Meeting with the CEO

    • Conducted an in-depth session to understand the newly appointed CEO’s vision, challenges, and short and longer-term strategic goals.

    • Identified that leadership alignment and operational efficiency were key areas of focus.

    One-to-One Senior Leadership Interviews

    • Held 90-minute interviews with all 9 SLT members in roles across Operations, R&D, Sales and Marketing, HR and Innovation.

    • Gained valuable perspectives into the original acquisition rationale, leadership gaps and structural inefficiencies including overlapping functions.

    • Insights analysed and mapped across key themes of leadership and governance, client and product and people and operations.

    Strategic Leadership Workshop

    • Brought the SLT together in a collaborative workshop to present feedback from SLT interviews.

    • Facilitated discussions to align on key strategic priorities for 2025 and beyond. This included a desire to define the sales strategy and redefine the company’s vision, mission and purpose, which had evolved significantly post-acquisition.

    • Encouraged open dialogue to foster teamwork and clarity on leadership roles.

    Organisational Structure Recommendation

    • Developed and presented a revised SLT framework, mapping strategic goals around innovation, market expansion and operational efficiency.

    • Proposed a streamlined leadership structure and reporting lines to enhance decision-making and collaboration, and articulated benefits.

    • Ensured alignment with the company’s long-term strategic goals by identifying key value creation plans (VCPs) and provided an implementation plan for executing key initiatives.

    • Recommendation Enacted: The CEO implemented the recommended changes, leading to a more effective and cohesive SLT.

    • Clear Roles and Responsibilities: Clearer roles, responsibilities, and accountability led to stronger leadership alignment, fostering a unified vision.

    • Primed For Growth: The company now operates with a leaner, more agile leadership team, driving sustainable growth and operational excellence.

  • By conducting detailed leadership assessments, fostering collaboration, and optimising the SLT structure, we enabled the organisation to enhance its leadership effectiveness and overcome integration challenges. The new structure positions the company for long-term success by improving strategic clarity, operational efficiency, and overall leadership performance.
